Not Seeing the Bigger Picture?
Sometimes we’re so caught up in the emotion of it all that we neglect the bigger picture. This was me, lying in hospital, after dedicating a year of my life to a training for a 1,400 mile triathlon.
After swimming the distance of the channel, I hopped on a short train ride up to John O Groats in order to attempt to conquer the 900 mile distance from North to South of UK. 700 miles in, and being told by a doctor I can’t physically continue, I passed out in the GP surgery, almost losing both of my legs to septicaemia. I was immediately rushed to hospital for critical surgery.
Why am I telling you all of this?
Because, after 1 week resting up, I came back and did back to back ultra marathons with 2 holes in my legs despite being told I could not even run a mile for the next 5 weeks. The year after, still believing I had “failed”, I set out to run 100 miles in 24 hours and smashed it. Sometimes the breakdown is necessary to experience the breakthrough.
